Berlin, decade of 1940. Dark, of eight years, it comes back home after playing with his friends of the college to discover a feverish activity in his house: his father, an official Nazi, has been promoted and his mother is preparing a holiday. Dark he does not understand what they celebrate since the new destination of his father is out of Berlin. The whole family will have to move to the field, forcing him to leave the house and the friends that so much it adores. His fear of the loneliness is confirmed when the family comes to his new one, isolated and sinister home.
To Dark it is difficult to him to be accustomed to his new life and gets bored increasingly. There are no children with whom to play and his mother prohibits him to explore the surroundings of the house.
