You use here when you are talking about an object that is near you or the place where you are at the moment, for example:
1- -did you bring your clothes or you left them in your car?
- I have them here in my backpack (while holding the backpack)
2- I'm here in Mexico
You use there when and object is far away or if you're talking about a place that is far:
1- look at these pictures of Australia. I wish I was there.
2- -you have your car keys, right?
-no, they're there (pointing at the table whilst standing by the door)
