Lin-Manuel Miranda (New York, January 16, 1980) is an American composer, lyricist, actor, singer, playwright and producer, creator and star of the Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton.
He composed the lyrics and music for In the Heights, released in 2008. The play was awarded Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The album Hamilton ranked # 1 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart for ten weeks in 2015, while The Hamilton Mixtape, an album of covers of songs from the musical, reached # 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
On television, Miranda worked on the series The Electric Company (2009–2010) and Do No Harm (2013). He hosted Saturday Night Live in 2016, which earned him his first nomination as an actor for an Emmy Award. Among other film works, Miranda composed the music for a scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015); he wrote the soundtrack and songs for Moana (2016), and earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for best original song for "How Far I'll Go"; and he portrayed Jack in the musical Mary Poppins Returns (2018), for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy or musical.
He has won a Pulitzer Prize, three Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, a MacArthur Scholarship, and a Kennedy Center Honor in 2018.
