On June 16, 1963, aboard the Vostok 6 spacecraft, Tereshkova circled the Earth 48 times for three days. After this feat, Valentina continued to collaborate in the Soviet space program and became a prominent personality in Russia.
Daughter of a tractor driver and a worker in the textile industry, from an early age she practiced the sport of parachute jumping, and even obtained the title of instructor in this specialty. A worker in a textile factory, Tereshkova was completing her studies at a night school.
Attracted by space research, she did not hesitate to volunteer as a future astronaut, and although she lacked adequate training, the Soviet space agency decided to prepare her, along with three other women.
After the space mission, he studied space engineering, graduating in 1969 and obtaining a doctorate in engineering in 1977. He subsequently became interested in politics and, due to his prominence, held various political positions in the Soviet Union. She participated in the UN World Conference on the occasion of the International Year of Women, held in Mexico in 1975, and in 1982 she received the Simba Award for her work in promoting women.
