Respuesta:

Russia were those people 'over there' who were outside Europe. Russia had no clear borders, which made its western neighbors nervous, and had the powerful ottoman turks to the south. It could only largely expand east, away from Europe and absorb its weaker neighbors. In the end, that land became its greatest strength.
