Before the Move
It had been a hard year for Jake. His Mum and Dad had split up just after
Christmas and his dad had moved out. Jake had been really sad, he missed
his Dad and now only saw him every other weekend. Mum was sad too. Since
Dad had left they didn't have as much money and soon it became clear that
they couldn't afford to live in the big house they had had when Dad was with
them.
So changes had to be made. Jake was sad to be leaving the old house, he had
lived there for 6 years, 3/4 of his life. The house was full of many happy
memories. He loved his bedroom, the trampoline in the garden, Javed and
Karim who lived next door who he used to play football with and the big,
welcoming kitchen where they all used to sit and eat their breakfast before
work and school. Mum had told him there might not be room in their garden
for the trampoline. But she also told him that he could choose how he would
like his room; posters, paint and even furniture. This all made Jake feel a
little bit better. She also told him that next door to the new house in
Abbot Street there lived a nice family with 4 children one of whom was
about the same age as Jake who also went to Jake's new school, St. John's.
Despite all these reassurances Jake still felt a bit uneasy about the big
move.
