CARTAGENA OF THE INDIES WORLD HERITAGE

1. Cartagena of the indies is a fabulous city. It is fabulous for its history of Spanish
conquerors and frequent invasión of pirates, and for its military and colonial
architecture.
2. Don Pedro de Heredia founded the city on january 20th, 1533. The caribs and

of the City with their work and lives. In La Plaza de los Coches in Cartagena a
terrible human market existed, a slave market. Fortunately, a jesuit priest, Saint
Pedro Claver, protected and evangelized them. He died in Cartagena in 1654.
His remains are preserved in the altar of the Church of San Pedro Claver.
