Sigmund Freud ( Freiberg , 1856 - London, 1939 ) Austrian neurologist , founder of psychoanalysis. The man who would revolutionize clinical psychology and psychiatry, bent relatively late into the study of medicine. He enrolled at the Vienna School of this science (his family had moved to Vienna in 1859 ) after reading the works of Darwin and an essay by Goethe. He graduated in 1881 , initially became interested in the physiology of the nervous system and brain anatomy. It obtained in 1885 the authorization for the free education of neuropathology , he devoted himself , however , soon to psychiatry and left that same year to Paris to follow the courses of Charcot at the Salpetriere , studying their theories and familiar with hypnotic techniques used by it in the treatment of hysteria and other nervous disorders .

El hombre que habría de revolucionar la psicología clínica y la psiquiatría, se inclinó relativamente tarde hacia el estudio de la Medicina. Se matriculó en la Facultad vienesa de esta ciencia (su familia se había trasladado a Viena en 1859) tras la lectura de las obras de Darwin y de un ensayo de Goethe.Graduado en 1881, se interesó al principio por la fisiología del sistema nervioso y la anatomía cerebral. Obtenida en 1885 la habilitación para la enseñanza libre de la neuropatología, se dedicó, no obstante, muy pronto a la psiquiatría y marchó aquel mismo año a París para seguir los cursos de Charcot en la Salpétrière, estudiar sus teorías y familiarizarse con las técnicas hipnóticas empleadas por éste en el tratamiento del histerismo y de otros trastornos nerviosos.
