The institution that today is known as the Conservatory of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the National University has a long history dating back to 1882 and, in the opinion of some, had its roots in the musical movement that emerged in 1846 with the creation of the Philharmonic Society. The relationship that exists between the National Academy of Music and the aforementioned Society is more of a family nature, since the founder of the Society, Henry Price, was the father of the founder of the Academy, Jorge Price. But, between the Academy and the Conservatory of today, there are institutional links that gave continuity to the original project, despite the name changes that the institution has had.
It was born as the National Academy of Music in 1882 and became the National Conservatory of Music in 1910, it was annexed to the National University of Colombia as the National Conservatory of Music in 1935, it became the Department of Music with the "Patiño Reform" of 1965 and acquired the name of Conservatory of Music in 2002, with the reform of the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Colombia, which included the creation of institutes and schools instead of the traditional departments.
THE PROGRAM
The Music Career currently comprises 4 emphases of which the applicant must choose one, these emphases are: Composition, Direction, Jazz and Instrumental Pedagogy, the chosen emphasis will be his line of training and it will be titled, that is, the title that You will be a Musician with an emphasis on Direction, Composition, Jazz or Instrumental Pedagogy as the case may be.
