Respuesta:Peru is characterized by its promulgation of spanish as an official language both at the macro and microlinguistic levels. The State has exerted strong pressure against the preservation of Peru’s first languages. These indigenous languages have encounted a general hostility marked both by exclusion and discrimination at the Republican Era. Such a situation is still perceptible and one can easily talk about linguistic discrimination in the Andine area. I will describe the high level of diglossia in Peru, which I compare to a linguistic Apartheid. After a review of the contemporary situation and a pespective on the cultural specific identities, I will describe the languages in Peru in relation to their rates and territories. I devote a section to the various legislations regarding indigenous languages in Peru before focusing on two indigenous congresswomen, Hilaria Supa Huaman and Maria Cleofé Sumire de Conde who played a crucial part at the Peruvian congress in asserting their specific identity and culture. I will conclude on a more optimistic note on interculturality in Peru.
