The noun shrimp can be countable or uncountable. In more general, commonly used, contexts, the plural form will also be shrimp. However, in more specific contexts, the plural form can also be shrimps e.g. in reference to various types of shrimps or a collection of shrimps.

When we refer to shrimp as food it is uncountable. Therefore it is not written in plural. However, if we refer to individual shrimps we should consider them as countable.

For example:

  • Shrimp are delicious.
  • There are 50 shrimps in the pool.

Differences between Spanish and English

Some nouns that are countable in Spanish are not countable in English. That is why we know that there are countable and uncountable adjectives in English. Countable adjectives are those that have a name for singular and plural while uncountable adjectives are those that can be named in only one way.
