I: Harriet, you´ve been traveling for quite a while, haven´t you?
H: It was always one of my greatest ambitions to travel around Asia, so yeah. A
year ago I left home in California, said goodbye to my family adn friends, and
set off, I´ve been traveling ever since.
I: So where was the first place you went?
H: Thailand, I started off in Banhkok and then went north. Then I went to South
Korea, Japan and over to China, Mongolia.
I: Wow! That´s incredible. So how many countries have you visited so far?
H: Well, I´m in Singapore now – that´s the tenth country and I´m almost finished!
I: Have you had any problems, you know, on such a long trip?
H: It´s been rally great, but yeah, one thing stands out. In China I was hiking along
the Great Wall for a few days, and I fell and badly hurt my ankle.
I: That´s to bad.
H: Yeah, that was quite a setback.
I: Anything else? Any fears you´ve over come?
H: I guess the biggest thing I´ve had to over come is my fear of flying.
I: Really?
H: Yeah, I´m terrified of flying. I´ve tried to avoid planes, but sometimes it´s not
Possible. I just sit here and suffer, you know.
I: Taking such a long trip is pretty unusual, though, isn´t it? I mean, you´re very
Lucky to be able t do that.
H: I am, but I´ve made sacrifices, too! I quit my job back in the States. I was
working as a senior manager in a big company. So my career has suffered,
and I haven´t seen my family for a year!
I: So, has the trip been a success for you, do you think?
H: Oh sure! It´s been absolutely amazing, I´ve loved every minute of it.
I: Even the flying?
H: Ah, well…
