On Sunday afternoons I usually look at old photos next to the lamp that Marieta gave me. It is an oriental lamp, decorated with red fabric fringes and yellow crystals. Then when I get tired, I wander around the living room looking at my feet for a while and enter the kitchen in the dark. I open the fridge door and stay there. Standing I like the white light that comes from inside. Today there were only two moldy tomatoes, three yogurts, and one sea bass on a glass plate. He felt cold, like the day I fell off my horse.

He caught the fish in his hands and placed despair on the counter. Then he slid the point of the knife over his gut, from head to tail, and the viscera have been bleeding the white cutting board.

The day of the horse, when Marieta tried to get me up, there was also blood on my hands. I didn't like her very much, but one morning when I was debating, she was stung by a wasp in the eye. No one with a heart can leave a woman in those circumstances. I remember that, before being shot at the horse's head, we had also argued.

At first I was going slow, but, that meadow was so appealing, there, among the trees, that I couldn't avoid chopping spurs and galloping. Marieta yelled at me, but I ignored her. I had scarcely traveled a hundred meters when I saw a wind-blown plastic bag approaching. Everything happened in an instant. Horses can become very stupid animals when they are scared.

I barely had time to get my feet out of the stirrups. I ascended slowly and stood there, suspended in midair, like a fool in front of a dead sea bass. It gave me time to think about many things. I could even entertain myself by watching the rays of the sun, slipping through the branches of the pine trees, while listening to the sound of the hooves walking away.

When all is lost, one can focus on things. Time freezes. When you finally understand that the situation is irreversible, the body relaxes and you see everything clearly. It is an eternal moment.

At first, when I left the hospital, Marieta came to visit me on Sundays and prepared dinner. Perhaps she only suffered pain, as happened to me the day the wasp stung her in the eye.

Now that I see the bled sea bass on the table and I wonder how the hell it cooks. Sometimes I forget things, as if time stopped dead and there was nothing else.

To make the most of the meat, carefully measure the tip of the knife and slide it, sticking well to the bone, until the fish is divided into two halves. The important thing is that the oil is very hot, do not overdo it with the salt and put a little breadcrumbs to avoid sticking in the pan.

When you remember things, it is easier to forget them. Dead sea bass have a very cold touch. After a while, finally, I don't remember anything else. I put the fish in the fridge and go back to the living room to eat a bag of peanuts. Sunday afternoons are terribly boring days.

On Saturday my family and I were in La Falda spending the holidays when we decided to go out at night so that my 6 and 14 year old children could enjoy an ice cream, my husband driving the boys happy, when suddenly in front of the terminal we were shocked a motorcycle from behind. In that second I thought that if I turned my children would be crushed, but no. The boy on the bike just yelled, lifting things off the floor, the police came, the road too, and they didn't even do a blood test, when you noticed he was drunk or drugged. It is obvious that they knew him, I felt so alone because nobody cared to take a good look at the documentation of the boy on the bike, all defeated. The only thing I did was calm my 6-year-old son, who was in a nervous breakdown, my husband with my other son, taking photos of the documentation and the policemen challenged him on the motorcycle to calm down because he was yelling. There was a woman witness, she called the police, I did not know what the police are called, she took the data.
