José de la Cruz Porfirio Díaz was born on September 15, 1830 in Oaxaca. He was the son of José Faustino Díaz Orozco and María Petrona Cecilia Mori Cortés; he had six brothers.

Díaz studied Law at the Institute of Sciences and Arts, where he was a disciple of Benito Juárez (1806-1872), of whom he would become a follower. But this campus was closed by President Antonio López de Santa Anna (1794-1876) in 1854, so that same year he joined the Ayutla Revolution that overthrew the president.

Thus he entered the military career, in which his promotion was spectacular; He participated in the War of the Reformation and in the fight against the French invasion and the rise of Maximilian of Habsburg as emperor.

Porfirio Díaz was one of the heroes in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 along with Ignacio Zaragoza (1829-1862).

His military career generated great recognition, but Congress elected Benito Juárez as president, who would be reelected four years later, before which Díaz rebelled and launched the Plan de La Noria, in which he declared himself for non-reelection. Faced with his failure, he left the country.

That was his first term as president, a position he won nine times.

Porfirio Díaz Mori was the President of Mexico who achieved stability after the convulsed stage that emerged after the Independence of Mexico.

Porfirian rule promoted a peace that allowed international recognition, the opening of new lines of credit, national and foreign investment. "Little politics and a lot of administration" was the motto of the time.

However, over the years, as the porfiriato advanced, the abysmal difference in the distribution of national wealth became more palpable, and the discontent of the poor was growing.

In this context, in the electoral process of 1910, the Coahuilense politician Francisco I. Madero (1873-1913) ran as an opponent of Díaz for the Presidency.

In May 1911, peace was signed between Maderistas and the Díaz government, who resigned from the Presidency and left the country for Paris, France, where he was to die on July 2, 1915.
