Los verbos separables en inglés son aquellos que como su nombre lo indica se pueden separar, es decir, se puede colocar una persona o palabra del complemento entre el verbo y la preposición. Ejemplo: turn on, take back, call off.
Ahora, los verbos inseparables del inglés son aquellos que no se puede de ninguna forma separar el verbo de su preposición. Ejemplo: look for, come back, call on.
Un ejemplo de uso de estos verbos esta en la siguiente historia:
Today I woke up at 7 AM, then I turned the light on and got up of the bed. After that, I took a shower and put on my clothes. My friend pick me up at 8 AM, and we went to work. The day was okay, I practiced a lot with the kids at work because they need it for the English test.
In my last class, I looked around and there was not anybody, but after a few minutes they appeared. The students checked the exams that they had presented the previous day, some of them just gave up of that and gave them back to me. During the whole class they took down what they did not know. At the end of the class, I talked over with a coworker because he was saying bad things about me, I was so angry that I just ran away from there.
Finally, I got on the subway at 7PM and came back home at 8 PM. I took off my clothes, took a shower and went to bed because I was really tired.
