El reported speech se usa para decir lo que otra persona dijo.

Reported Speech.

El reported speech  se utiliza para decir algo que otra persona ha dicho con nuestras propias palabras, es decir, no tiene que ser dicho palabra por palabra, para eso hay que cambiar los adverbios, los pronombres y los demostrativos.

I. Reported Speech: Simple Present - Simple Past.

Cuando el estilo directo está en presente simple se debe cambiar al pasado simple en el estilo indirecto.

1. Laura told me she worked in a car factory.

2. They said they didn't go to school on Sundays.

3. Sara told us her son studied in a High Institute.

II. Reported Speech: Present Continuous - Past Continuous

Cuando el estilo directo está en presente continuo se pasa a pasado continuo en el estilo indirecto.

1. Leila told us she was waiting for the bus.

2 Nancy said the kids were playing in the park.

3. Sarah revealed her daugther was getting married on the summer.

III. Reported Speech: Simple Past - Past Perfect

Cuando el estilo indirecto está en pasado simple se debe cambiar a pasado perfecto.

1. Alice told me they had helped with the housework.

2. My friends said that they hadn't enjoyed the show.

3. Albert told his friend he hadn't had time to chat.

4. Messi told reporters they had scored 6 goals in the match.

5. A farmer declared it hadn't rained much in February.

IV. Reported Speech: Past Continuous - Past perfect Continuous

El estilo directo en pasado continuo cambia a pasado perfecto continuo en el estilo indirecto.

1. Peter told us he had been expecting the promotion.

2. My sisters said they had been dancing at 9 o'clock.

3. Dad told us it had been raining in the morning.

V. Reported Speech: Present Perfect Simple - Past Perfect Simple

Cuando el tiempo verbal está en presente perfecto simple se debe cambiar al pasado perfecto simple en el estilo indirecto.

1. Acel admitted he had made a silly mistake.

2. They said they hadn't finished the project yet.

3.  A farmer told the journalists the rain had killed some animals.

4.  My neighbors told me their son had graduated from college.

VI. Reported Speech: Simple Future - Conditional.

Si el estilo directo está en futuro simple, se debe cambiar al condicional would en el estilo indirecto.

1. Janet revealed she would take part in the competition.

2. My friends told me they wouldn't start the project in May.

3. The investors said they would start the project soon.

VII. Reported Speech: Modals.

1. The director told the farmers they couldn't offer the credit.

2. Mike said he had to pay the bills before Saturday.

3. The teacher told the students they had to answer the questions in class.

4. Grandpa told us it might rain in the evening.
