This city is located north of the highlands of Peru. It is the capital of the department and province of Cajamarca, at an approximate height of 2,750 meters above sea level, on the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountain Range, in the inter-Andean valley formed by the Mashcon and Chonta rivers.
