x+y) = (3+2√2)^1/2

Squaring on both sides,

(x+y)^2= 3+2√2

Expanding left hand side,

x^2+2xy+y^2 = 3+2√2

Here, the term x^2 and y^2 are the squaring terms so it does not contain √2. So we get

x^2+y^2 = 3 and 2xy = 2√2

x^2+y^2 = 3 and xy = √2

Here when x = 1 , y = √2 and vice versa.

So value of (x+y) = (3+2√2)^1/2 = √2+1= 2.41429
