USAGE:
• We use comparatives to compare two people or thigs. EXAMPLE:
Mike is younger than Sophie.
• We use superlatives to compare three or more people or things or a whole group.EXAMPLE:
Sue is the oldest girl in my class
SPEELING RULES
• To make comparatives, we add -er to the adjetive.
To make superlatives, we add -est to the adjetive. EXAMPLE:
cold - colder - the coldest
• For adjetives ending in one vowel plus one consonant, we usually double the final consonant. EXAMPLE:
big - bigger - biggest
• For adjetives ending in -e, we add -r or -st. EXAMPLE:
nice - nicer - the nicest
• For adjetives ending in -y, we usually change the -y to an -i. EXAMPLE:
easy - easier - the easiest
• For long adjetives, we use more + adjetive to make comparatives and most + adjetive to make superlatives. EXAMPLE:
interesting - more interesting - the most interesting.
IRREGULAR FORMS:
• There are three irregular comparative and superlative forms. EXAMPLE:
good - better - the best
bad - worse - the worst
far - further - the furthest
