Vilcabamba is in the Ecuadorian Andes, south of the town of Loja. The village is in a valley. It has a small church, adobe houses, and a little river runs nearby. On the farms the people grow bananas, oranges, lemons, coffee and tobacco. In this quiet village live old men and women: some are eighty, some are ninety, some are hundred and some others are even older. What is their secret? Why do they live so long?
Doctors, sociologists, dieticians and even journalists have studied the food and the habits of these people. Their secret is right there in Vilcabamba. The air is clean, the water is not polluted, and the food is simple and healthy: fruit, vegetables, and maybe chicken on a holiday.
