Conocido informalmente como el Rey de la selva por su porte y su magnificencia, el león es uno de los cuatro grandes felinos que habitan el planeta junto al tigre, el leopardo y el jaguar. El león es un mamífero que pertenece al género Panthera y su denominación científica es Panthera leo. El león se ubica actualmente en territorios reducidos de África y de la península Arábiga, aunque el espacio ocupado hoy por este felino es llamativamente menor que el que ocupaba en otras épocas, cuando su poderío se extendía por casi toda la superficie africana y arábiga. Hoy en día, el león se considera un animal vulnerable de acuerdo a los parámetros de conservación, lo cual supone que su preservación se encuentra en riesgo.

Known informally as King of the jungle by the door and magnificence, the lion is one of the four large cats that inhabit the planet alongside the tiger, leopard and jaguar. The lion is a mammal belonging to the genus Panthera and its scientific name is Panthera leo. The lion is now located in small territories of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, although the space occupied today by this cat is striking smaller than the one it occupied in other times, when its power extends for almost all the African and Arab surface. Today, the lion is considered a vulnerable animal according to the conservation parameters, which means that its preservation is at risk.
