The origin of the catrina dates back to the 19th century when Mexico was experiencing great political and social instability.The cartoonists used the country's conflicts to seek them out.

The first catrinas were not dressed, they only wore a hat. They were a skeleton where you could clearly see the bones of the body, the skull, teeth, arms, hands and fingers, the spine, legs and feet.

Diego Rivera gave her the outfit that we all know today, with an iconic feather hat, thus turning her into the catrina, as a synonym for catrin that is given to an elegant and very well dressed man.
