NOTA:

1st action: I had visited the Science Museum ➙ past perfect

➺ Cuando Krysta inventó la moto de agua llevaba mucho tiempo enferma.

NOTA:

1st action: she had been ill for a long time ➙ past perfect

2nd action: Krysta invented the water bike ➙ past simple

➺ Simon había tocado el piano mucho tiempo cuando dio su primer concierto.

NOTA:

PAST PERFECT

➜ Este tiempo verbal se usa para referirse a acciones pasadas que sucedieron antes de otra acción pasada que generalmente se expresa en 'past simple'.

➜ Para escribir un verbo en 'past perfect' se deben usar el auxiliar HAD (cualquiera sea el sujeto) y el participio pasado del verbo principal.  

➜ En las oraciones afirmativas cuyo sujeto es un pronombre puede usarse la contracción «'d» (= had).

➜ En las oraciones negativas puede usarse la contracción negativa 'hadn't' (= had not).

Estas son todas las estructuras.  

Past perfect – Affirmative:  

[̲̅+̲̅] Sujeto + auxiliar 'HAD' + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos  

Past perfect – Negative:  

[̲̅–̲̅] Sujeto + auxiliar 'HAD' + 'NOT' + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos  

[̲̅–̲̅] Sujeto + contracción 'HADN'T' + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos  

Past perfect – Interrogative:  

a) Yes/No Questions:

[̲̅?̲̅] Auxiliar 'HAD' + sujeto + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos + ?  

b) Wh-Questions:

[̲̅?̲̅] Wh-word + auxiliar 'HAD' + sujeto + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos + ?  

Past perfect – Interrogative Negative:  

[̲̅+̲̅] [̲̅–̲̅] Auxiliar 'HAD' + sujeto + 'NOT' + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos + ?  

[̲̅+̲̅] [̲̅–̲̅] Contracción 'HADN'T' + sujeto + participio pasado del verbo principal + complementos + ?  

NOTA:  

• Si el verbo es regular, el participio pasado se forma añadiendo la terminación '-ed'/'-d' al infinitivo (= forma base) del verbo.  

• Si el verbo es irregular, no tiene un patrón fijo. ☹️ Hay que aprender el participio pasado de memoria, o buscar su forma en un diccionario o en la tercera columna de cualquier tabla de verbos.
