The Sun does not shine the same way everywhere on Earth. Due to the tilt of the Earth with respect to the Sun, the position of the Sun changes throughout the year.

During June (Summer in the North), the North Pole faces the Sun, which shines there 24 hours a day: it is the polar day. At the same time, the Sun does not shine at the South Pole; here the polar night prevails. In December, the opposite happens, the South Pole has the polar day and the North Pole, the polar night.

On June 21 and December 21, we have, therefore, the two solstices of the same length of day and night throughout the world. This also leads to the seasons.
