Good morning everyone.

Today I’m going to tell you about the main problems our planet has today.

[The first big problem is climate change: our planet is getting warmer and the temperatures are increasing. So, the polar ice caps are melting and causing a rise in the sea levels.]₁

The second problem I’m going to talk about is deforestation. [Deforestation happens because we are cutting down too many trees, for example, to make houses. This seriously damages the land and causes soil erosion...]₂

[Soil erosion is another serious environmental problem: when the soil gets very dry it is easily blown away by the wind]₃ and this means plants can’t grow properly.

I also want to tell you about pollution. [Pollution occurs when chemicals or toxic substances get into the air, water or land.]₄ Pollution can kill animals, plants and people.

[Another big problem we face today is water scarcity: when there isn’t enough of this vitally important liquid, people, animals and plants die.]₅

[And finally, I’m going to talk to you about the loss of biodiversity on our planet. At least 10,000 species become extinct every year.]₆ That’s a lot of plants and animals that we will never see again.

Hoy les voy a hablar de los principales problemas que tiene nuestro planeta en la actualidad.

El primer gran problema es el cambio climático: nuestro planeta se está calentando y las temperaturas están aumentando. Entonces, los casquetes polares se están derritiendo y provocando un aumento subida del nivel del mar.

El segundo problema del que voy a hablar es la deforestación. La deforestación se produce porque estamos talando demasiados árboles, por ejemplo, para hacer casas. Esto daña gravemente la tierra y provoca la erosión del suelo...

También quiero hablarles de la contaminación. La contaminación se produce cuando entran productos químicos o sustancias tóxicas en el aire, el agua o la tierra. La contaminación puede matar animales, plantas y personas.

Otro gran problema al que nos enfrentamos hoy es la escasez de agua: cuando no hay suficiente cantidad de este líquido de vital importancia, mueren personas, animales y plantas.

Y por último, voy a hablarles de la pérdida de biodiversidad en nuestro planeta. Al menos 10 000 especies se extinguen cada año. Eso son muchas plantas y animales que nunca volveremos a ver.
