This water returns to the earth in the form of rain, snow or hail. Due to the porosity of the terrain, some of the rainwater is filtered. When it finds a layer of impermeable materials stops its march and is stored forming pockets of groundwater. They are aquifers, where water can be stored for thousands of years. In these large pools of groundwater, the upper level where the water comes is called the water table. When the water table is at ground level it forms a lagoon or raft. Following
the foothills of the mountains the water is framed and ordered in
drainage systems composed of small streams that join to form large
streams that flow into a river or a main channel. These rivers at the end flow into the sea and the cycle is restarted.
