Juana de Ibarbourou (Fernández Morales, single), also known as Juana de América (Melo, March 8, 1892-Montevideo, July 15, 1979), was a Uruguayan poet. She is considered one of the most personal voices of the Latin American lyric of the early twentieth century, whose poems tend to the sentimental exaltation of loving dedication, motherhood, physical beauty and nature [1]. On August 10, 1929, in the Hall of Lost Steps of the Legislative Palace, she received the title of "Juana de América" from the hand of Juan Zorrilla de San Martín in front of a multitude of poets and personalities. She was buried with the honors of Minister of State in the cemetery of her family of the Cemetery of Diving.
