Mass is the amount of matter a body contains. Every body has mass. More importantly, more mass. The rocks, the balls, the cars, the air, the mountains, the water and everything that makes up the planet and the Universe have mass.
The amount of mass of a solid, liquid or gaseous object is determined by the scales. On Earth, the mass and weight of objects are the same. A balance allows comparison of the known weight of a body against that of an unknown weight. The type of balance used depends on the type of object or material whose weight is intended to be measured. For example, in order to measure the weight of tortillas, the granatary balance is used, while in determining the weight of a person the scales are used.
People generally confuse the concept of mass with weight, but they are different; for example, if the weight of a person was measured, the scale would indicate a certain amount of kilograms. If that person and scale could be transported instantly to the Moon, the scale would mark a smaller weight, approximately half as on Earth; if the balance could also be brought to outer space and it was about measuring the weight of that person, it would be the same as zero.
