Nicholas was looking through a dictionary from his school library when he found a photo hidden between the pages. Intrigued, he looked closely at it: it was an old picture of a little girl next to an older man who seemed to be his father. In the background, he could see a large, intricately ornamental house. This house provoked a warm, familiar feeling in Nicholas.
As he stared thoroughly at the picture, he noticed some handwriting at the back. It was signed by a certain "Mr Miller". Suddenly, a realization sparked in Nicholas' mind. His dearest friend's father was called John Miller. It had to be him!
Nicholas rushed to her best friend, Sarah, and showed her the picture. "Where did you find this?" - She asked. He told her what had happened while she listened astoundedly. "That's a picture of my dad and me when I was a child. It's been lost for ages!" Sarah said.
So they hurried to Sarah's house and approached her father. Nicholas showed Mr Miller the picture while he told him the story, and he looked astonished. "I can't believe you found this! Thank you very much, boy. Here's something for you in return." Mr Miller took some money out of his pocket and handed it to Nicholas.
Nicholas was very happy for them. And for himself too, since he could go to the movies with Sarah that afternoon.
