The white rat ...

They say that the Queen of all the magical Fairies of the forest, one day summoned her sisters to a banquet in her palace. Without wasting a second, the fairies set off in their best attire and sped through the forest, mounted aboard swift dragonflies.

The least of all the fairies was named Alba, and as she was on her way to the palace, she heard agitated sobs from a little house deep in the forest. As he approached the place, he discovered two little ones crying unprotected and freezing to death.

Then Alba snapped her fingers and magic set the stove on fire to warm the children, whose parents had come to town to work and to buy food. "Well, until your parents appear, I will not leave them alone" exclaimed the kindly fairy, tucking the little ones in.

Later, when it was his turn to leave, the fairy was on the road thinking about the terrible punishment that awaited him for being late for the great Queen's banquet. And so much was his nervousness, that he forgot the magic wand at the children's house. Upon arriving at the palace, the Queen scolded him strongly: “In addition to being late for the ceremony, you are also capable of forgetting your magic wand. I will punish you for your bad actions ”.

The rest of the sisters compassionately asked the Queen that the punishment was not eternal. "I know that everything has been for a good cause, so your kind heart will only be punished for a hundred years, and during that time, you will walk the world in the form of a white rat."

In this way, dear friends, every time we see a white rat, it means that Alba has not yet served her punishment, and that she goes around the world taking care of children who are left alone without their parents.

The Fox and the Crow... One bright morning as the fox was following his sharp nose through the wood in search of a bite to eat, he saw a crow on the limb of a tree overhead. This was by no means the first crow the fox had ever seen. What caught his attention this time and made him stop for a second look, was that the lucky crow held a bit of cheese in his beak.

- No need to search any farther, thought sly master fox. Here is a dainty bite for my breakfast.

Up he trotted to the foot of the tree in which the crowwas sitting, and looking up admiringly, he cried:

- Good-morning, beautiful creature!

The crow, his head cocked on one side, watched the fox suspiciously. But he kept his beak tightly closed on the cheese and did not return his greeting.

- What a charming creature he is! said the fox. How his feathers shine! What a beautiful form and what splendid wings! Such a wonderful bird should have a very lovely voice, since everything else about him is so perfect. Could he sing just one song, I know I should hail him King of Birds.

Listening to these flattering words, the crow forgot all his suspicion, and also his breakfast. He wanted very much to be called King of Birds. So he opened his beak wide to utter his loudest caw, and down fell the cheese straight into the fox's open mouth.

- Thank you, said master fox sweetly, as he walked off. Though it is cracked, you have a voice sure enough. But where are your wits?

Moral of the fable: do not rely on the praises of others. Do not trust who only exalts you.
