1: At first, uniforms didn't exist, so they identified each other with scarves or other similar objects. But in 1867 it was said that players of the same team should play with the same uniforms, so the uniforms with red and blue stripes were introduced, a few years later the teams adopted colors according to the school they belonged to.

2: Yeah, probably. Perhaps a better material or more comfortable design.

3: Probably, but I don't know why.
