1. What things does your robot do? Use the frequency adverbs

- My robot is usually helpful

- My robot is never scary

- My robot rarely has technical issues.

- My robot sometimes cooks.

Explicación: Los 'frequency adverbs' (adverbios de frecuencia) se utilizan para  indicar con que frecuencia («How often») realizamos una determinada actividad o acción. Algunos ejemplos son:

Always (siempre)

Usually (usualmente)

Normally // Generally (normalmente // generalmente)

Often // Frequently (frecuentemente // a menudo)

Sometimes (algunas veces)

Occasionally (ocasionalmente)

Seldom (pocas veces)

Hardly ever // Rarely (casi nunca // rara vez)

Never (nunca)

2. Complete the text with the simple past of the verbs in the box. There is one extra verb.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Scotland. Young Alexander (1) was curious about the science of sound. He (2) loved music and taught himself to play the piano. When he (3) was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing and that (4) motivated him to learn more about sound. In 1871, he (5) moved to Boston in the United States and (6) dedicated his time to his inventions.

He (7) experimented with a telegraph and (8) used different sound frequencies. He believed that it was possible to send the human voice over wires. In 1874, he met Thomas Watson,  an electrical designer and mechanic who (9) helped him with his work. In 1876 he made the first telephone.

Explicación: El ejercicio nos pide que uses la forma pasada de los verbos que te dan para completar el texto. Para transformar el verbo en Past Simple:

1. Para verbos regulares (regular verbs), añadimos -ed a la forma infinitiva del verbo:

motivate -> motivated

experiment -> experimented

help -> helped

2. Para verbos irregulares (irregular verbs), incluyendo el verb to be, debemos memorizar la forma pasada.

be -> was/were
