The pandemic of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has highlighted, in an unprecedented way, the importance of care for the sustainability of life and the low visibility that this sector has in the economies of the region, in which it is still considered an externality and not a fundamental component for development. The ongoing health crisis highlights the unjust social organization of care in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is urgent to think about the responses to care needs from a gender perspective, since, as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) has repeatedly shown, it is women who, paid or unpaid, carry out the greatest number of care tasks.
