Homer was an Ancient Greek poet who was born and lived in the
VIII century BC He is the author of two of the main works of the
antiquity: the poems
epics The Iliad and The Odyssey. His works may have been written
by other ancient authors or perhaps they are just compilations of
Oral traditions from the Ancient Greek period.
Homer was blind and could have been born in any town in the
Ancient Greece: Smyrna, Colophon, Athens, Chios, Rhodes, Argos,
Itaca or Salamis.
Although there are different versions about the life of the poet that
have survived to this day, its content, including the famous
blindness of the poet, is mythical and typical of novels. The most
remote as implausible, falsely ascribed to Herodotus, dates from
5th century BC, in it, Homer is presented as the son of a
Seduced orphan, named Creteidas, who gave birth to him in
Smyrna at the mouth of the Meles river and who named it
Melesigen. It is said that he soon stood out for his qualities
artistic, and began a free and unconventional life.
It is said that an illness left him blind, and since then
He was renamed Homer.

Homer is the presumed author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two hugely influential epic poems of ancient Greece. If Homer did in fact compose the works, he is one of the greatest literary artists in the world, and, through these poems, he affected Western standards and ideas.
