Stonehenge
Stonehenge is one of the most famous monuments of the United Kingdom but it was built so long ago, it’s hard for scientist to say when it’s from. Every year, scientists say it was built on a different date.
Stonehenge has large stones placed in a circle, with a big stone placed in the middle, like a shrine. Scientists believe that Stonehenge was used for ceremonies, but they don’t know which type of ceremonies. It could have been for healing, a place to bury the dead, or a place to look at the stars.
But the real mystery is that nobody knows how the stones got there. The stones weigh up to 25 tonnes, so it would have been impossible to carry them, the only tools they had were made of rope, stone and wood.
Some believe it was there before the Romans invaded Britain. Others believe aliens placed them there. The truth will be very hard to find.
