De Simon Bolivar
Simon José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Palacios and Blanco was born in Caracas on July 24, 1783, by Juan Vicente Bolívar and Ponte and Maria de la Concepción Palacios y Blanco. Born an aristocrat, Simón Bolívar received an excellent education from his tutors, especially Simón Rodríguez. Thanks to his tutors, Bolivar knew the works of the philosophical movement of the eighteenth century and also those of classical Greece and Rome.
At the age of nine the young Bolivar lost his parents and was in charge of his uncle Don Carlos Palacios. At the age of fifteen, Don Carlos Palacios sent him to Spain to continue his education.
Bolivar traveled to Spain in 1799 with his friend Esteban Escobar. While making this trip, he stopped in Mexico City where he met the viceroy of New Spain who was alarmed when the young Bolivar argued with confidence about American independence. He arrived in Madrid in June of that year and staying with his uncle Estaban Palacios.
In Spain, Bolivar met Maria Teresa Rodriguez del Toro and Alayza with whom he married soon after in 1802. Shortly after returning to Venezuela in 1803, Maria Teresa died of yellow fever. His death greatly affected Bolivar, who vowed never to marry again. Promise that kept the rest of his life.
