JOBS BY LAURA CAVENDISH

I think my parents both have really interesting Jobs; Mum is a journalist and Dad is a
firefighter. They met when there was a big fire in the centre of town. Mum went to interview
the people who were there and Dad was one of the héroes. They always say it was love at
first sight! I am not sure, but it is a nice story.
When we were small, Mum stayed at home to look after us and she worked part-time. Her
boss was very good and said that she did not have to go into the office. As we have a
computer, she wrote all her articles in the kitchen while we played in the livingroom. She
went back to work full- time when we started going going to school.
Dad loves his job because every day is different. Sometimes there is not much to do but
then at other times the work is very dangerous. I can not imagine what Dad would do if he
was not a firefighter. I suppose he would choose another job where he can help people.
At the moment I am working as a waitress in a local café. It is a Saturday job and it gives
me a bit of money and independence. When I leave school I want to travel and then go to
university. I want to be a dentist and I know you need good exam results and you have to
study for a long time. My parents just want me to be happy so they will help me whatever I
