Explicación:
En inglés tenemos que distinguir dos grupos de sustantivos, contables e incontables. Son contables los que podemos cuantificar numéricamente y tienen una forma singular para una sola unidad y forma plural para cualquier otro número de unidades. Los sustantivos incontables no se pueden cuantificar numéricamente y no se aplican los conceptos de singular o plural.
Para los sustantivos contables existe el artículo indeterminado singular "a" o "an" dependiendo de si el sustantivo que le acompaña comienza con un sonido vocálico, que requiere el artículo "an", en los demás casos se usa "a". El artículo indeterminado singular se usa para referirnos a una sola unidad de los sustantivos contables en todas las clases de oraciones.
El artículo indeterminado plural "some" se usa en oraciones afirmativas indistintamente para los sustantivos contables o incontables.
Para las oraciones negativas e interrogativas con las formas plurales de sustantivos contables o con sustantivos incontables se usa el artículo indeterminado "any".
Hay excepciones:
En las oraciones interrogativas cuando estamos ofreciendo algo o preguntamos por educación y esperamos una respuesta afirmativa siempre usamos "some".
Can I have some coffee?
¿Puedo tomar café? (esperamos una respuesta afirmativa)
Do you need some help?
¿Necesitas ayuda? (estamos ofreciendo ayuda)
