Sinceramente es un tema muy largo pero basicamente consiste en contarle a una tercera persona lo que viste, escuchaste o dijiste. Mi maestra me lo explico como si fueras a contar un chisme de algo que paso, para formularlo pasa la ultima parte al inicio

La parte subrayada pasa al inicio y la oracion cambia su tiempo verbal de acuerdo al tiempo en el que se encuentre:
presente simple - pasado simple
presente continuo - pasado continuo
presente perfecto - pasado perfecto
futuro will - would
will - was/were going to
Tambien se usa con algunos modal verbs como:
can - could
must - had to
may - might
Como te digo es muy complejo y a mi se me hizo más faácil aaprenderlo como si fuera chime. :D
