► PAST SIMPLE - VERB 'TO BE'
➜ El pasado simple del verbo to be (= ser/estar) tiene solo dos formas, que deben escogerse según el sujeto de la oración:
• Sujeto: I, he, she, it ━━━━━→ Verbo: WAS
• Sujeto: I, you, we, they ━━━→ Verbo: WERE
➜ Para formar oraciones afirmativas en past simple con el verbo 'to be' hay que escribir el sujeto, luego la forma apropiada del verbo 'to be' y por último, los complementos.
Ejemplos:
• She was Japanese. (= Ella era japonesa.)
• We were in the garden. (= Estábamos en el jardín.)
➜ Para formar oraciones negativas en past simple con el verbo 'to be' hay que escribir el sujeto, luego la forma apropiada del verbo 'to be', el adverbio negativo 'not' y por último, los complementos. También se pueden usar las contracciones negativas 'wasn't' (= was not) y 'weren't' (= were not).
Ejemplos:
• She was not Japanese. / She wasn't Japanese. (= Ella no era japonesa.)
• We were not in the garden. / We weren't in the garden. (= No estábamos en el jardín.)
➜ Para formar oraciones interrogativas (= preguntas) en past simple con el verbo 'to be' hay que invertir el orden sujeto-verbo, es decir, hay que escribir primero la forma correcta del verbo 'to be', luego el sujeto y por último, los complementos.
Ejemplos:
• Was she was Japanese? (= ¿Ella era japonesa?)
• Were we in the garden? (= ¿Estábamos en el jardín?)
