TEXTO:
The world’s fastest land animal is running for its life. In 1.900, 100.000 cheetahs lived in the wild.
Today, 10.000 cheetahs live in the wild.
Cheetahs are big cats, they hunt during the day, so when livestock is killed by a predator, farmers
blame cheetahs. To protect their domestic animals, farmers kill cheetahs.
Fortunately, organizations such as the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), a partner of the National
Geographic Big Cats Initiative, are working with farmers in places like Namibia—the country with
the biggest remaining cheetah population—to help guarantee the cheetah’s survival.
“Our programs are working, and we can see the difference we are making,” says Marker. “We need
young people to continue the program, or this animal could disappear in 2.030. It is important for
the cheetah and our planet, to create an army of ecologists with the next generation.”
There are many ways to help conserve wildlife, and you don’t need to be an adult! Marker says
children can start a nature club or report and share what they learn about cheetahs.
