The white flowers of the almond trees filled the landscape while the joyful trills of the birds animated the pilgrim's walk. He was a tall, burly man with brown skin, and big black eyes. He carried a small backpack over his shoulder and a sturdy cane that he dug into the dirt of the road as he climbed to the top. He stopped to gaze at the distant horizon towards which he was heading. After a short rest, his steps became agile and spirited again. He wanted to get to the next town as quickly as possible in search of a hot meal and a comforting shower. Taking a deep breath he quickened his pace. He smiled as he gazed at the cloud-free blue sky as he continued his march.

Él era un hombre alto y corpulento, de piel morena y grandes ojos negros. Llevaba una pequeña mochila al hombro y un robusto bastón que clavaba en la tierra del camino mientras subía a la cima. Se detuvo para contemplar el lejano horizonte hacia el que se dirigía. Tras un breve descanso, sus pasos volvieron a ser ágiles y animados/vivaces. NOTA:
No hay una correspondencia absoluta entre los adjetivos en inglés y en español. Hacia el final del fragmento en inglés aparece el adjetivo compuesto cloud-free, que no tiene un equivalente en español y no puede traducirse como un adjetivo. Literalmente significa 'libre de nubes', por lo que la traducción más cercana es 'sin nubes' (que es un sintagma preposicional, no un adjetivo).

► ADJETIVOS CALIFICATIVOS
➜ Los adjetivos calificativos (= qualifying adjectives, en inglés) son adjetivos que describen seres vivos (personas, animales y plantas) y cosas. En otras palabras, expresan las características, rasgos o propiedades de los sustantivos que modifican (= describen).
➜ En español, los adjetivos calificativos —como cualquier otro tipo de adjetivo— concuerdan en género (masculino o femenino) y número (singular o plural) con el sustantivo al que se aplican. En inglés, sin embargo, los adjetivos son invariables, es decir, hay una única forma para cada adjetivo (no existen adjetivos singulares o plurales, masculinos o femeninos).
Ejemplos:
• a difficult problem ➙ un problema difícil
• some difficult questions ➙ unas preguntas difíciles
• a thirsty girl ➙ una niña sedienta
• three thirsty cats ➙ tres gatos sedientos
➜ Además, salvo muy pocas excepciones, los adjetivos en inglés siempre van delante de los sustantivos.
