The Post-Classic period is a period in the history of pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica spanning from 900 D.C. to D.C. 1521, and is divided into two periods, the Post Classic Early and Late Post Classic.
Early Post Classic is the period from 900 to 1200 A.D. characterized by the fall of the cities characteristics of the Classic Period, the emergence of a new social class, namely, the warriors, the Toltec hegemony and relevance of public rituals in which highlighted human sacrifices, which had been practiced in previous periods . It was also characterized by migratory movements that led to the abandonment of certain areas, such as northern and Mayan areas.
The Late Post Classic runs from 1200 to 1521 A.D., when the Spaniards arrived Mesoamerican territory. During this period, the occupied Mesoamerican territory had been reduced significantly. The northern area began to be occupied by nomadic groups known as chichimecas.
In the center of the territory, military and trade relations are further complicated the state and are fundamental to the understanding of regional integration. Also in this period the Triple Alliance which controlled the area by imposing a system of taxes arises, and would only be faced by groups like the Tarasco and other manors
