The decade of the 2000s war against terrorism declared by the United States of America (under President George W. Bush) after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 against the Twin Towers in New York and El was marked Pentagon, which killed nearly three thousand people. In this context the wars in Afghanistan (since 2001) and Iraq (since 2003) that led, respectively, the overthrow of the Taliban regime and Saddam Hussein took place. Although Al-Qaeda terrorism continued hitting and causing more deaths in Bali (2002), Madrid (2004), London (2005), Bombay (2006) and numerous attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was also the decade of the rise of China as a world power (in 2010, it became the second world economic power) and the economic rise of India and Brazil, which have become points of reference worldwide (known as "emerging countries" ). The US will remain the world's leading superpower but will not have the power that held the previous decade, beginning the process towards a multipolar world.
