Explicación:

Leonardo da Vinci, the great Renaissance artist, model of the uomo universale, was also a scientific genius. Apart from his pictorial work, as exquisite as it is scarce, there was a Leonardo dedicated to rigorous observation, experiment, and the exact formulation of general principles from empirical experience. In the thousands of pages of his notebooks, which have only begun to be studied in depth in recent decades, we find anticipations of many later developments in modern science. His contemporaries knew that Leonardo devoted much of his time to the study of natural philosophy, which is what science was called then (the English term scientist did not appear until 1840) and we also have evidence that Leonardo planned to publish numerous scientific treatises with the materials collected in their notebooks. But despite his enormous dedication, he never succeeded in carrying out his purpose.

More than six thousand pages of Leonardo's notebooks are preserved. They contain thousands of drawings and graphics accompanied by deliberately cryptic text; for example, some passages are written from right to left, so they have to be read with a mirror. These notebooks are scattered throughout Europe forming part of private collections; Many of them were often forgotten and more than half have been irretrievably lost, although some have reappeared as a miracle, as is the case of the two codices that were discovered among dusty files in the National Library of Madrid in 1965.
