In the past, virtually none of the non-revolutionary and non-ideological wars had been waged as a fight to the death or until total exhaustion. In 1914, it was not the ideology that divided the belligerents (...) Why, then, the major powers on both sides considered the First World War as a conflict in which one could see victory or defeat Total ?
