El presente continuo es usado cuando la acción se esta realizando ahora, en este momento. Entonces en las oraciones que se usa el "now" (ahora) ya sabemos que se usa este tiempo verbal.
El presente simple muestra rutinas, habitos, acciones o hechos en general y es usado con adverbios de frecuencia (always, usually, sometimes, often, never)
Para aclarar, en la primera oración el sujeto es "The children" lo cual significa los niños o las niñas, y sabemos que el are es usado para sujetos plurales.
