Summarizing is analyzing information and determining what is important to mention and what is not.  

It reduces the original text to a few sentences or a short paragraph in your own words.  

Steps to summarize:  

1. Read the passage.  

2. Determine the most important idea of the passage.  

3. Highlight important details.  

4. Find keywords and use them to write the topic sentence. It  

is also a good idea to answer some questions in order to in order to complete the idea:  

" Who did what, where, and when?”  

" What is the main idea of the text?"
