The man of dreams
In January 2006, a New York psychiatrist welcomed one of his patients into his office like any other day. In that session, the young woman explained that she had repeatedly dreamed of a man she did not even know. He had an incipient bald spot, very thick eyebrows and extremely thin lips, especially the upper one. While listening to the description, the physician drew the portrait of the subject. He did not give it much importance and left it on the table.
The tables turned when, in their subsequent consultations, two more patients claimed to have seen the same man in dreams. The psychiatrist decided to make copies of the drawing and send it to various colleagues. Months later, they saw that the number of people who had dreamed of him did not stop increasing and they chose to create a web page in which all their appearances were recorded. Doctors discovered that the mysterious man had sneaked into the dreams of nearly two thousand people.
His "appearances" are the most disparate. One of the patients claimed to have seen him dressed as Santa Claus. Another said he fell in love as soon as he saw it. A third assures that when he dreams that he is flying, the man does it next to him, and never speaks.
The phenomenon has given rise to multiple conspiracy theories. One of them points out that the intruder is a real person with the ability to break into dreams. Another even claims that it is a hidden project of governments to control the lives of citizens. The most scientific hypothesis, however, indicates that this face is part of the “common conscience”.

El hombre de los sueños
En enero de 2006, un psiquiatra de Nueva York recibió en su consulta a una de sus pacientes como un día cualquiera. En aquella sesión, la joven le explicó que había soñado en repetidas ocasiones con un hombre al que ni si quiera conocía. Tenia una calva incipiente, las cejas muy gruesas y los labios extremadamente finos, en especial el superior. Mientras oía la descripción, el facultativo dibujó el retrato del sujeto. No le dio mayor importancia y lo dejó sobre la mesa.
Las tornas cambiaron cuando, en sus siguientes consultas, dos pacientes más aseguraron haber visto al mismo hombre en sueños. El psiquiatra decidió hacer copias del dibujo y enviarlo a varios compañeros de profesión. Meses después, vieron que el número de personas que habían soñado con él no paraban de aumentar y optaron por crear una página web en la que se registraran todas sus apariciones. Los facultativos descubrieron que el misterioso hombre se había colado en los sueños de cerca de dos mil personas.
Sus “apariciones” son de lo más dispares. Uno de los pacientes aseguró haberlo visto vestido de Papá Noel. Otro dijo haberse enamorado en cuanto lo vio. Un tercero asegura que cuando sueña que vuela, el hombre lo hace junto a él, y nunca habla.
El fenómeno ha dado pie a múltiples teorías conspirativas. Una de ellas señala que el intruso es una persona real con la habilidad de irrumpir en los sueños. Otra, incluso afirma que se trata de un proyecto oculto de los gobiernos para controlar las vidas de los ciudadanos. La hipótesis más científica, sin embargo, indica que este rostro forma parte de la “conciencia común”.
