Colombia makes progress in reducing adolescent pregnancy thanks to the successful experiences in cities such as Manizales, Medellín, Cali and Bogotá. According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), in 2018 there was a 1.61% reduction in births by mothers between the ages of 10 and 19 in 2018 compared to the figures reported in 2015.

On this occasion, Colombia will focus the discussions on two fundamental aspects: first, to identify a tool for monitoring the existing policy framework that ensures resources and defines clear goals and intersectoral actions, especially in the rural context; and second, in what were the determinants of success in 4 capital cities (Manizales, Medellín, Cali and Bogotá). The good results in these cities were key for the fertility rate in adolescents aged 15 to 19 to fall from 75 births in 2015 to 61 births in 2017.
"This reduction, although moderate, shows that adolescents are having greater tools for making decisions about the exercise of their sexuality. This has been the result of the commitment of the National Government, territorial governments, civil society and allies of International Cooperation to implement public policies and programs that have collected the voices of adolescents; that have offered responsible and timely information eliminating barriers to access to contraceptive methods and counseling in sexual and reproductive health services; that have promoted with adolescents and their families the exercise of their rights and have provided scenarios for the development of interests and vocations in the consolidation of their life projects ", said the Director General of the ICBF.

Según el Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE) en 2018 se presentó una reducción del 1,61 % de nacimientos por parte de madres entre los 10 y los 19 años en 2018 respecto a las cifras reportadas en 2015.
Así lo destacó la Directora General del Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar (ICBF), Juliana Pungiluppi, durante la instalación, con el Viceministro de Salud, Iván González, de la octava versión de la Semana Andina de Prevención del Embarazo Adolescente, evento que se celebra simultáneamente en 6 países de la región (Chile, Ecuador, Perú, Venezuela, Colombia y Bolivia) para poner en el radar esta problemática, destacar avances y trazar y acelerar agendas de trabajo en cada país.
En esta ocasión, Colombia concentrará las discusiones en dos aspectos fundamentales: en primer lugar, identificar una herramienta de seguimiento al marco de política existente que asegure recursos y defina metas claras y acciones intersectoriales, sobre todo en el contexto rural; y segundo, en cuáles fueron los determinantes de éxito en 4 ciudades capitales (Manizales, Medellín, Cali y Bogotá). Los buenos resultados en estas ciudades fueron claves para que la tasa de fecundidad en adolescentes de 15 a 19 años descendiera de 75 nacimientos en el año 2015 a 61 nacimientos en el año 2017.
"Esta reducción, aunque moderada, demuestra que los adolescentes están teniendo mayores herramientas para la toma de decisiones sobre el ejercicio de su sexualidad. Esto ha sido resultado del compromiso del Gobierno Nacional, gobiernos territoriales, sociedad civil y aliados de la Cooperación Internacional para implementar políticas públicas y programas que han recogido las voces de los adolescentes; que han ofrecido información responsable y oportuna eliminando barreras de acceso a métodos anticonceptivos y asesoría en servicios de salud sexual y reproductiva; que han promovido con los adolescentes y sus familias el ejercicio de sus derechos y han brindado escenarios para el desarrollo de intereses y vocaciones en la consolidación de sus proyectos de vida", dijo la Directora General del ICBF.
